Button rewind1956
Original M2 production used a small button to disengage the film for rewinding — the same approach as the M3. Rarer than the lever version and slightly fiddlier to use.
Lever rewind1958
Leica added a fold-out lever for rewinding in 1958, making the M2 faster and more convenient to shoot with — this is the version most buyers encounter today.
