On October 21, 1967, during the massive anti-Vietnam War march on the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Magnum photographer Marc Riboud stood between a wall of helmeted National Guardsmen with fixed bayonets and thousands of protestors.
A young woman named Jan Rose Kasmir stepped forward holding a delicate flower just inches from the soldiers' blades. Riboud knelt with his Leica M3 and 50mm Summicron lens, framing the serene innocence of the bloom against the rigid wall of steel. The image was broadcast across global newspapers, crystallizing the 1960s peace movement into one immortal frame.
