Leica D-Lux 8
Announced in May 2024, the Leica D-Lux 8 is a redesigned compact zoom camera based on a Micro Four Thirds sensor — the same underlying sensor format used in Panasonic's Lumix compact cameras, with which the D-Lux shares core technology. The redesign brought the D-Lux visually in line with the Q3, giving it a cleaner, more refined exterior that feels like a proper Leica rather than a rebadged Panasonic.
For photographers new to the Leica lineup: the D-Lux occupies the accessible end of the range. At $1,595 it is the most affordable current Leica camera, and it offers a zoom lens (covering a range equivalent to 24–75mm in full-frame terms) rather than the fixed lenses of the Q series. The Micro Four Thirds sensor is smaller than the full-frame sensors in the Q3 and M bodies, but it is a capable imaging platform for travel and everyday photography. The D-Lux 8 is the answer for photographers who want the Leica build, aesthetics, and glass quality without the full-frame price.
