Leica M11-D
Announced alongside the Q3 43 in September 2024, the Leica M11-D is an M11 with the rear LCD screen removed entirely. There is no screen on the back — just a smooth black surface and a minimalist set of controls. All settings are managed via a companion app over Bluetooth, and image review happens only when you transfer files to your phone or computer.
For photographers: this is a philosophical camera. Every other modern digital camera assumes that instant image review — chimping — is a feature. The M11-D argues the opposite: that the screen is a distraction that pulls you out of the moment, causes you to second-guess exposures in the field, and generally undermines the confident, decisive style of shooting that the M system is built around. By removing the screen, Leica forces you to trust your exposure, trust your focus, and shoot the way film photographers have always shot. At $9,395 it is not for everyone, but it is one of the most thoughtfully opinionated cameras ever made.
