Leica Q2 Monochrom

CameraMade in Germany2020–202319055

The Q2 Monochrom (late 2020) applied the Monochrom logic to the Q2 platform: remove the Bayer colour filter array, let every pixel capture luminance directly, and gain significant resolution and high-ISO performance compared to a colour sensor of the same pixel count. At 47.3MP with no demosaicing, it is an exceptionally capable B&W compact camera.

Unlike the M-system Monochroms, the Q2 Monochrom offers autofocus — a meaningful advantage for street photography where the M Monochrom's manual focus can slow you down. The fixed 28mm Summilux f/1.7 and weather sealing carry over from the colour Q2. It was discontinued alongside the Q2 when the Q3 launched in 2023.
