The SL2-S (November 2020) complemented the 47MP SL2 with a 24MP BSI sensor tuned for speed and high-ISO performance. Where the SL2 maximises resolution for landscape and studio, the SL2-S maximises usable ISO and burst speed — up to 25 fps in electronic shutter mode. The same 5-axis IBIS, same IP54 weather sealing, same EVF. It targets videographers and sports/action photographers who prioritise low-light performance over megapixel count.
The "S" in SL2-S stands for the same sensibility as the later SL3-S: sensitivity over resolution. In Leica's SL hierarchy it sits as the practitioner's choice, while the SL2 is the studio choice.
