Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH
NotableKnown as "Noctilux 75"
The 75mm Noctilux brings the Noctilux's signature rendering to portrait distances — f/1.25 at 75mm creates depth separation no other M lens can match.
Announced in April 2017, the Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH extended the Noctilux concept beyond the classic 50mm. At 75mm and f/1.25, the depth of field at portrait distances is extraordinarily shallow — measured in centimetres. Leica described the rendering as "three-dimensional" and "painterly," with smooth bokeh and a focus transition that separates subject from background more dramatically than any previous M lens.
The 75mm focal length is itself significant on the M system: long enough for flattering portrait compression, short enough to compose without a telephoto finder. Combined with the f/1.25 aperture, it creates an optical signature unique in the entire lens world.
For newcomers: depth of field at f/1.25 and 75mm at a typical portrait distance of about 1.5 metres is roughly 3–5 centimetres. One eye can be in focus while the other blurs. This is not a lens for precision documentation — it is a lens for atmosphere, impression, and visual poetry.
