011. Overview & Service Scope
Leica Journal (“we,” “our,” or “the service”) is an independent, non-commercial chronicle, equipment catalog, serial number production archive, and gear bag tracker for camera collectors and photography enthusiasts. We respect your privacy and are committed to safeguarding your personal data. This Privacy Policy details how we collect, handle, and protect your information across our website and services.
022. Information We Collect
• Account & Authentication Data
When you sign in via Magic Link or Google OAuth, we collect your email address and basic profile information (such as your display name and avatar URL provided by Google). We operate a 100% passwordless architecture and do not store any passwords.
• Gear Bag & Wishlist Content
The cameras, lenses, condition ratings, purchase notes, target prices, and wishlist items you add to your bag. By default, your gear bag is completely private to your account. It is only visible to others if you explicitly toggle your public profile on in Settings.
• Comments & Contributions
If you submit comments, reviews, or historical corrections on gear entries, your display name and submitted comment text will be displayed publicly following moderation.
• Privacy-Preserving Web Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to monitor aggregate traffic and site health. Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not collect personal identifiers, and does not track users across websites.
033. How We Use Information
- Authenticate your identity and maintain secure login sessions;
- Seamlessly sync your Leica gear bag, wishlists, and preferences across devices;
- Render your public profile and vanity URL (/@username) if you choose to enable it;
- Review and publish community discussion comments and protect against automated abuse;
- Optimize edge server performance and database query responsiveness;
- We never sell, monetize, or rent your personal information or email to advertisers or third-party data brokers.
044. Cookies & Storage
We only utilize essential first-party cookies (such as the secure HttpOnly session_token cookie) strictly required to maintain your authenticated session. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting beacons, or marketing trackers. Browser LocalStorage is used strictly for non-sensitive UI state cache.
055. Third-Party Infrastructure
Edge runtime hosting, encrypted D1 SQL database storage, and cookieless web metrics.
Optional third-party OAuth sign-in, scoped strictly to email and basic public identity.
Dispatches one-time cryptographic sign-in links. No promotional or marketing spam is ever sent.
066. Your Rights & Data Control
You retain complete sovereignty over your data:
- Access & Update: Modify your display name, bio, vanity handle, and gear notes at any time in Settings.
- Visibility Toggle: Switch your gear bag between private and public at any moment.
- Account Erasure: Remove equipment entries individually, or contact us to permanently wipe your user profile and records.
