011. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Leica Journal (“the platform,” “we,” or “our”). By accessing or using this website, its historical chronicles, serial and order code lookup engine, equipment comparison, market valuation indicators, or cloud gear bag, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please discontinue using the service immediately.

022. Non-Affiliation & Trademark Notice

Independent Status: Leica Journal is an independent, non-commercial cultural archive and collector reference maintained by photography enthusiasts. We are NOT affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Leica Camera AG or any of its global affiliates.

Trademarks: “Leica,” the red dot emblem, M-System, Summicron, Summilux, Noctilux, Elmar, and specific model designations are registered trademarks of Leica Camera AG. Their use on this website is strictly descriptive and nominative for identification, historical reference, and commentary.

033. Historical Data & Valuations Disclaimer

• Historical Specifications & Serial Batches: Our chronological database and serial lookup tool are compiled from published collector literature, factory delivery logs, and public auction records. Early production records may contain historical variances, factory rebuilds, or undocumented prototypes. We do not warrant absolute completeness.

• Secondary Market Values: Used market price ranges and median indices reflect historical auction records and community dealer trends. They are provided solely for hobbyist budgeting and reference. Actual transaction prices depend heavily on cosmetic condition, mechanical health, optical coating preservation, and provenance. Valuations do NOT constitute financial appraisal or investment advice.

• Inspection Checklists: Known issue lists and inspection guides are compiled from enthusiast experience. You remain solely responsible for inspecting equipment and conducting due diligence in peer-to-peer or dealer transactions.

044. User Conduct & Community Guidelines

When interacting with Leica Journal, you agree to adhere to the following:

  • Do not post defamatory, abusive, offensive, fraudulent, or infringing content in comments or profiles;
  • Do not use comments or bio fields for advertising, spamming, or self-promotion;
  • Do not attempt automated scraping at abusive frequencies, denial-of-service attacks, or unauthorized penetration testing against our APIs or edge databases;
  • Protect the security of your authenticated email mailbox;
  • We reserve the right to moderate, unpublish, or delete content, and suspend access for accounts violating these rules.

055. Intellectual Property & Fair Use

• Original Platform Content: The software codebase, structural taxonomy, curated editorial analyses, and user interface design of Leica Journal are protected by intellectual property laws. Unauthorized duplication or commercial mirroring is prohibited.

• Iconic Photography Copyright: Masterworks and historical photographs shown on gear or photographer pages remain the intellectual property of the respective photographers, their estates, or copyright holders. They are displayed for non-commercial educational review, commentary, and historical documentation under fair use. If you are a copyright holder and object to an image citation, please notify us for immediate resolution.

066. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

Leica Journal is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Leica Journal and its maintainers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the site or reliance upon any historical or pricing data.

077. Modifications & Termination

We reserve the right to revise these Terms of Service at any time. Updates will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the platform after modifications constitutes acceptance. We may terminate or suspend access for users who violate these terms at any time.
